Rescued Woman Injured in Bellaire House Fire     8 April, 2009, 10:02 pm BELLAIRE, Ohio -- At about six o'clock Wednesday night, smoke from an apartment fire in Bellaire could be seen for miles. Three apartments, all housed in one home, were burning when Neffs Firefighters responded. When firefighters did arrive at the house which was fully involved, they found the first fire hydrant. The problem was, it didn't work. That's when firefighters had to scramble and come up with an alternative plan. Once they did find a working hydrant five blocks away, they laid a line all the way up 42nd street to feed the fire trucks. Shadyside Assistant Fire Chief John Shaver said, "Neffs was already here with water on the house from the trucks but they didn't have hydrants so they had two bad hydrants they hit so we laid from the hydrant down by Guernsey Street and laid up and fed their truck. That was our main objective at first to get them water and we got them water and get that going. Then we got our people up here, helping them put the fire out." early morning accident     5 December, 2007, 04:56 pm Photo by John McCabe Neffs firefighters work to stabilize the driver of this red minivan following an accident early this morning on Interstate 470 west in Ohio. According to a man who witnessed the accident, the van was traveling at a high rate of speed when it slid out of control, traveling across the highway and hitting the bank on the right-hand side of the interstate. The van then flipped over, landing back on its wheels facing the roadway. The driver’s injuries did not appear to be serious. ( 8073 Comments )

The blaze that consumed a Belmont Street building reportedly was the largest the village had seen in recent years. At least 15 different fire departments responded with more than 100 firefighters for a fire that completely destroyed the structure and two businesses inside it. And while crews continued to battle the fire into the evening, plans already were under way to help get the businesses back in operation. The fire was reported around 9:45 a.m. after people saw smoke coming from the building at 3315 Belmont St. It housed Country Square gift and craft store and a gaming parlor. First to respond to the scene was Neffs Fire Department, which provides fire protection for the village. Tom and Anna Waryck of 4664 Noble St., noticed that their electric was out early this morning. Tom Waryck went to check the electrical box and detected smoke in the house. The Warycks and their two teenage children were able to escape the house without injury. BELLAIRE — The Ohio State Fire Marshal will investigate a fire early today that destroyed a village home, but preliminary inspections do not indicate arson, according to one fire official said. According to reports, the 4664 Noble St. residence of Tom and Anna Waryck is considered a total loss after flames ripped through the structure shortly after 4 a.m. today. A spokesman with the Neffs Fire Department said the fire marshal is expected to investigate the scene of the fire later today. An official cause of the blaze has not been determined.
